A well illustrated account of one of Britain's principal Roman towns. Periodically throughout the eighteenth and first half of the nineteenth centuries a series of excavations in the town had unearthed a number of dwellings dating from the Roman occupation, the majority with magnificent tessellated pavements. The authors give exhaustive descriptions of the pavements, the materials used, their original colours and the method of construction, all amply illustrated. Tombs, pottery and coins are covered in the second half of the volume. Member of the P.B.F.A.
