This has been re-cased into hard back boards with the original card covers bound-in. 8vo. 9'' x 6''. Contains [viii] 140 printed pages of Dutch text with monochrome portrait frontispiece and is the only existing painting of van Leeuwenhoek. Haaxman was a grandson of Antony van Leewenhoek's sister Margaret. This copy was gifted to The Royal Dutch Entomological Society [with small stamp inside] by P. C. T. Snellen, and has his signature in vague pencil writing to the top margin of the front cover. P. C. T.
