The active work of Sir Everard im Thurn, who after retirement from six years' tenure of the Government of Fiji and the High Commissionership for the Western Pacific, has up to the present day devoted himself to the study of the Pacific, its history, problems and races. Every part of this book has been revised by him, including the map. Appendices are The Pitcairn Island Fund Committee, The Whaleships at Pitcairn Island, and a Bibliography.
