He was the director of antiquities in Egypt during the 19th century, and excavated in Memphis and Dashur, providing many drawings of many Egyptian pyramids. He also worked at Stonehenge, and Persepolis, along with many other sites]. G. Legrain and G. Jéquier. (Book #ID 103108) Published by Adolf Holzhausen, Vienna First Edition 1903. 1903. The French archaeologist, engineer, geologist and prehistorian Jacques Jean Marie de Morgan (1857-1924) headed scientific legations in the Caucasus (1886-89) and in Persia (1889-91) before becoming director general of the 'Service des Antiquités de l ' Egypt'. He undertook the first systematic excavations in Dahshur, a necropolis about 26 kilometres south of Cairo on the west bank of the Nile. It was here that he discovered the as yet un-plundered graves of the princesses Mereret and Khnumit, whose extraordinary jewellery can now be seen in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. He also dug at Snofru's Bent Pyramid, at the Red Pyramid, at the Pyramid of Amenemhet III. as well as at the official necropolis.
