Hard back binding in publisher's original bottle green cloth covers, gilt title lettering to the spine. 8vo. 7½'' x 4½''. Contains [xii] 264 printed pages of text with many wood-cut illustrations throughout, now with 14 additional fables added in 1837. The Boy and the Filberts, now retold in verse in Old Friends in a New Dress, a popular collection written specially for children by Richard Scrafton Sharpe, originally published in 1807. The moral drawn there is that learning comes only with application - 'True wisdom is not learned at once'. The fable was attributed to Aesop in later 19th century collections and also found its way to the USA. Sadly the title page is missing, foxing verso the frontispiece, rubbing to the covers.
