Desert Encounter | An Adventurous Journey Through Italian Africa Holmboe, Knud [Knud Valdemar Gylding Holmboe (22 April 1902 Horsens Denmark - 13 October 1931 Aqaba, Jordan) was a Danish journalist, author and explorer]. Benito Mussolini (Book #ID 103591) Published by George G. Harrap & Co. Ltd., 182 High Holborn, London Reprinted Edition 1936. 1936. Reprinted edition hard back binding in publisher's original deep chestnut cloth covers, yellow stamped title and author lettering to the spine. 8vo. 8½'' x 5¼''. Holmboe exposes the maltreatment of the population he had witnessed on his journey and the atrocities committed by the Italian colonial power. This account is especially valuable for its description of the concentration camps into which Italian colonial powers forced Bedouin Arabs and where torture, humiliation, and famine were rife. Holmboe was murdered on his way to Makkah in Aqaba in October 1931. Some suspect that Italian intelligence officials, connected to the regime of Benito Mussolini, conspired in his death. Contains 282 pp with 61 monochrome photographs, 2 maps. Foxing to the page edges and title, end papers missing. Good condition book in Good condition dust wrapper with foxing to the paper, price clipped. Dust wrapper supplied in archive acetate film protection. Member of the P.B.F.A.
