Tony Bartley joined the RAF at the outbreak of war and this covers his experiences. He flew spitfires with 92 Squadron, first in the Battle of France, then covering the Dunkirk evacuation. At the height of the Battle of Britain he flew daily over London. He then went on to test-fly Spitfires and later led 65 Squadron at Debden and 111 Squadron in North Africa, and finally, he flew with 70th Fighter Wing of the American 9th Air Force covering the Normandy landings at Omaha Beach. Contains frontispiece by Cuthbert Orde, (viii), 207 pp with monochrome archive photographs throughout. Fine condition book in Fine condition dust wrapper, not price clipped. Number 5 of 5 flown cover SIGNED 'Tony Bartley' to the front cover, stamped '58th Anniversary The Battle of Britain, Northolt, Middlesex 19.09.98,' one cachet insert.
