Hill, J. W. F. [Sir James William Francis Hill (15 September 1899 - 6 January 1980) was a British solicitor and leading historian of Lincoln and Lincolnshire. He was the third Chancellor of the University of Nottingham and served as a Councillor, Alderman and Mayor of Lincoln. First edition hard back binding in publisher's original racing green cloth covered boards, blocked and lettered gilt back. 8vo. 9½'' x 6¼''. Contains frontispiece, (xvii), 487 pp with 22 plates, 25 monochrome text figures and maps. Surface marks to the spine else in Very Good condition, no dust wrapper. Two letters tipped to the front paste down; the first typed letter dated 22nd May 1952 from the author's private residence in Lincoln to a 'Mr E. A. B. Barnard' in Cambridge SIGNED 'J. W. F. Hill'. The letter refers to documents in the Lincolnshire Archives Office. Second double-sided hand written letter from the same residence dated 26th May 1952 and to the same recipient SIGNED 'J. W. F.
