First edition hard back binding in contemporary maroon pebble cloth covered boards, blocked and lettered gilt back. Thick 8vo. 9'' x 6''. Contains folding frontispiece, (xxiii), errata leaf, 686 pp with 5 folding maps and plans, 11 lithographed plates (2 folding, 8 tinted) and over 200 wood-engravings throughout. Plan 1 of the excavated Chambers at Kouyunjik is considerably torn and needs attention, foxing to the frontispiece and title, rear end paper map is detached. Ex Library with the words 'Withdrawn' inside the front cover, dewey number to the foot of the spine, unused issue sheet inside the rear board, spine sun faded. Member of the P.B.F.A.
