Contains red and black printed title, 28 pp. Printed on hand-made paper for private circulation. Presentation inscription from the author to the front free end paper 'James Niven Esq. M.B., LLD - With the author's kind regards, 27th December 1914'. James Niven was a Scottish physician, perhaps best known for his work during the Spanish Flu outbreak in 1918 as Manchester's Medical Officer of Health, he held that position for 28 years (1894-1922), until he retired. He had previously been Oldham's Medical Officer of Health. He lectured in Public Health in Manchester. He committed suicide on The Isle of Man in 1925 by taking an overdose and swimming out to sea. Light off-settting to the end papers and in Very Good condition. Member of the P.B.F.A.
