On Monday, August 19th, 1940, three German aircraft bombed the Admiralty oil fuel depot at Llanreath Pembroke Dock, to set off one of the most vicious fires of the second world war, representing a loss of 33,000,000 gallons of oil - a crippling blow to Britain's war effort. Who has also made comments to the margins of the book, being a resident of Tenby. John Tipton joined 109 Squadron in June 1943 and went on to complete 70 operations with the squadron through to 1945.
