Uniform matching in publisher's original blue card wrap covers [softback], black title, author lettering, part number and line illustration to the front cover of each part. Quarto 10½'' x 6½''. Contains [viii] 885 [vii] printed pages of text with author photographic frontispiece, plan of Lancaster Castle and 11 full-page single-sided sepia plates. The front cover to Part I is sun faded and has tears to the edges of the front cover, the 18 parts have been stacked in one pile over the years which has left them bowing towards the spine, the contents are clean and without any foxing our ownership marks, extremely scarce to see in the original parts.
