Die Ritterkreuzträger der Kampfflieger. Band 1 und Band 2 [The Knight's Cross of the Fighters Part 1 and Part 2] Two Volumes Complete

Kaiser, Jochen [Ernst Obermaier]

(Book #ID 88179)

Published by Luftfahrtverlag Start, Bad Zwischenhahn, First Thus Edition 2010 / 2011. 2010 - 2011.

Uniform matching first edition hard back binding in publisher's original emerald green covers, gilt title and author lettering to the spines. 4to 12'' x 8½''. Contains 271; 256 printed pages of bilingual German and English text with monochrome photographs throughout. Fine condition books in Fine condition dust wrappers, unused and unopened new books still in the publisher's original shrink warp plastic. Ernst Obermaier's books "Die Ritterkreuzträger der Jagdflieger" and "Die Ritterkreuzträger der Stuka- and Schlachtflieger" were first printed in the 1960s and 1970s. Later revised, these titles are still considered standard works on the subject. Obermaier planned a third volume, which was to have dealt with Knight's Cross winners from the bomber arm. Work on the book had begun, but was far from complete, when sadly Ernst Obermaier died unexpectedly in 1997. Jochen Kaiser took over Obermaier's files and, together with a number of German aviation historians, continued work on the project. After more than 10 years of research, Volume 1 was published in 2010, and Volume 2 in 2011 [1 of only 600 copies]. The author describes the military careers, special missions and fates of several hundred further Knight's Cross winners, whose names begin with the letters A to K [volume 1] and L to Z [volume 2]. The books are illustrated with a portrait photo and three or four other photographs [some in colour], each winner of the Swords and the Oak Leaves, and two photos of each winner of the Knight's Cross, a portrait photo and another photo depicting a milestone event, an aircraft or a mission tally on the tail of an aircraft. Heavy set. Member of the P.B.F.A. ISBN 9783941437074 / 9783941437098
