Uniform matching first edition hard back binding in full calf having been rebacked at some time in the past 50 years, five raised bands to the spines with gilt title, author lettering and volume details between, parallel gilt lines to the edges of the boards, marble page edges and end papers. 4to. 10¼'' x 8''. Contains [iii] - [xvi], 317, [1]; [x], v - viii, 298 pages with the list of subscribers bound in volume 1 following the title page, half titles are present. Illustrated with 140 full-page engravings, including several double page, beautifully engraved by Poisson after drawings by the author, which are mostly of birds, flora and fauna, and also include customs, religion, sciences and arts. Two former owner's armorial bookplates inside, Richard Henry Tidswell, and Theodore H. Broadhead, rubbing to the corners of the boards, age toning to the title pages and end papers beyond which only very light scattered foxing appears, hinges sound, lovely pair. Member of the P.B.F.A.
