Passau stamped 9th May 1933 - this item was on board the Do X on its final crash landing on the Danube. Behr, Volker A. [Claude Dornier] (Book #ID 88095) Published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd., 4880 Lower Valley Road, Atglen, Pennsylvania, USA First Edition 2013. 2013. First edition hard back binding in publisher's original photographic glazed boards, marble end papers. 4to 11½'' x 9''. Contains 232 printed pages of text with colour and monochrome illustrations and photographs throughout. Fine condition book in Fine condition dust wrapper. Included with this volume is a rare 1931 Do X Flight to USA flown envelope with Do X stamps, plus an extremely rare Reich Airmail Do X flight on board Do X. Passau stamped 9th May 1933 - this item was on board the Do X on its final crash landing on the Danube. Though only three were produced in late-1920s / early-1930s Germany, the Dornier Do X was the largest flying boat of its time and flew passengers on international flights in extreme comfort during the pre-World War II years. Powered by twelve engines, the aircraft could accommodate over 100 passengers and crew and included sleeping and dining areas. This detailed and highly illustrated book covers the design, development and construction of the Do X, then explores its initial testing and short but historic use as an international airliner, and lastly discusses the ultimate fate of all three examples. The superb collection of photographs includes rare images of the Do X s construction, flights, crew, and luxurious fittings -- including many of its interior features, furniture, vintage ephemera and place settings Dust wrapper supplied in archive acetate film protection, it does not adhere to the book or to the dust wrapper.
