Fine bindings of full turkey morocco by William Mansell bindery (James Hayday) one of the finest bookbinders of the day and pioneers in the use of turkey morocco, developed to allow the easier opening of books without straining the hinges. He sold the use of his name to William Mansell, who succeeded to the bookbinding establishment. From the private library of Eleanor Vere Boyle, Huntercombe Manor, with decorative ownership bookplate to each front paste down who signed her works 'EVB' to obscure her identity and who quickly became one of the most important female illustrators in the 1860s. Contains coloured engraved half-titles by Alonso Cano, (xliii)-1, 508; 509-948; 949-1481 (ii) printed pages of text, woodcut illustrations within the text and full page engraved portraits, initial letters printed in red. Foxing to the half-title and rear end papers, just a little rubbing to the high points of the boards, lovely sound and complete set. Member of the P.B.F.A.
