Uniform matching first collated edition hard back binding in publisher's original quarter nutmeg brown cloth covers, gilt title and author lettering to the spines, marble paper sides, terracotta end papers. 4to. 9'' x 9½''. Two volumes. The first volume presents, on each two-page spread, a facsimile of the manuscript on the left-hand page (column 1). On the right-hand page there is a printed transcription of the manuscript (column 2), each line as it appeared in the first edition (column 4), while column 3 is used to highlight variants between manuscript and printed versions. Finally, column 5 shows the location in the first edition of lines which have been moved from their position in the manuscript and those manuscript lines which never found their way into the printed version. The second volume provides facsimile printings of the first editions of the two books on the poem: The Betrothal (1854) and The Espousals (1856). Contents Volume I: colour frontispiece (xxii)-3, 127. Volume II: The Betrothal and The Espousals facsimiles.
