[Complete 2 Volume Set] Lyon, The Reverend John Lyon [1734 - 1814] was Minister of St. Mary's, Dover [Sir Thomas Maryon Wilson Bart.] (Book #ID 86689) Dover, Printed for the Author, by Ledger and Shaw and sold by them, and all the Booksellers in the County of Kent; and by Longman, Hurst, Reese, Orme, and Brown, 39, Paternoster Row, London. 1813 + 1814. Two Volumes. 1813/1814. Uniform matching first edition hard back binding in publisher's original plain brown paper covered boards, paper title and author lettering labels to the spines, all page edges untrimmed. 4to 11½'' x 9''. Volume I [xii] + xlviii + 366 pages; Volume II, [viii] + 390 pages. Illustrated with 18 copper engraved plates, 8 of which are folding. From the private library of Sir Thomas Maryon Wilson Bart, with his armorial coat of arms bookplate inside each volume. Scattered foxing to the end papers, small tear to the bottom of the title page of volume II, the front hinge to volume I has started to pull away, corners rubbed and turned-in, chipping of the paper covering the spines. The subscribers list accounts for 203 copies, so it is probable that no more than 250 copies were printed. Contains [viii], 335 pp illustrated with archive monochrome maps, relevant plans, copies of original documents and photographs throughout, along with a small amount of colour illustrations. The Lushington family's origins are traced back to the small hamlet of Standen, in the Alkham Valley where they farmed and reared a large family. Branches of their descendants lived in Hawkinge, Capel-le-Ferne, Alkham, Cheriton, Elmsted, Hastingleigh and Barham with wider links to the Isle of Thanet, Sittingbourne, London and Norfolk. A vast number of other names are researched and included in the index. Hand written No. 64 of 100 Limited Edition copies SIGNED by the author to the title page 'John Lushington.'
