Angelo M.a de Rubeis a Vultabio [A Short Exposition of the Virtues and Miracles of St. Felix a Cantalicio Religious Order]. A F. Angelo M.a de Rubeis a Vultabio [De Rossi, Angelo Maria] (cappuccino) [Giacomo Carboni | Nicola Oddi] Felix of Cantalice, O.F.M. Cap. (Italian: Felice da Cantalice), was born on 18 May 1515 to peasant parents in Cantalice, Italy, in the central Italian region of Lazio. Canonized by Pope Clement XI in 1712, he was the first Capuchin friar to be named a saint. He died in Rome in 1587 on his 72nd birthday and was buried in the crypt of the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini. (Book #ID 95145) Published Romæ, ex Typographia Bernabò; Anno First Edition 1712. 1712. First edition in original full vellum covers. 8vo. 8½'' x 6¼''. Contains [vi], frontispiece, 53 printed pages of Latin text with engraved frontispiece of Felix by Giacomo Carboni after Nicola Oddi. Felix is usually represented in art as holding in his arms the Infant Jesus, because of a vision he is said to have had, when the Blessed Virgin appeared to him and placed the Divine Child in his arms. Pope John Paul II observed that Felix is 'shown bearing the Infant Jesus in his arms because in bearing the burdens of the needy he had carried in his arms the poor Christ himself.' Two large woodcut illustrated capital letters, vignette to title page and large footer to the verso. Soiling to the covers, ink note to the title page, dusty page edges and end papers. Scarce.
