Essential Cello Technique [and Pedagogy] Leech, A.R.C.M. Hilary (Book #ID 82347) Bickley, Bromley, Kent Written and Dated September 1958. 1958. Hand written thesis [18,500 words] on Essential Cello Technique hand bound in cream card covers. 10½'' x 8¼''. Contains 210 single-sided pages of typed text with monochrome photographs tipped-in throughout. Know Basic Anatomy, Use anatomically neutral positions, More motion can result in greater efficiency, More motion can result in greater technical accuracy, More Motion can loosen excessive tension, Do not hinder passive motions, Use fluid rather than static technique, Divide up the work, Use large muscle groups, Tension and Release, Use gravity. Many pencil annotations throughout, Hilary has noted to the introduction leaf 'Completely reorganised, plus new photographs, exercises, formal layout, etc.' We contacted the archives department at The Royal College of Music in London and asked if they could shed any light on this past pupil, regrettably they drew a blank, we also wrote to her home address to see if we could trace her or her family, again without any success. We just think that this work should be appreciated for what it is, we are no cello players, however, the extent and thoroughness that she has put into the book will hopefully be comprehended and cherished by the right person.
