The Church [Temple] of St. Catherine in Saint-Petersburg located on the Nevsky Prospekt [In Russian]. Romuald [Romualda] Hankoska (Book #ID 80654) Published Saint-Petersburg First Edition 2001. 2001. First edition hard back binding in publisher's original illustrated glazed boards. 8vo. 9½'' x 8''. Contains 240 printed pages of Russian text with monochrome illustrations and photographs throughout. The Church of St. Catherine in St. Petersburg is the oldest Catholic church in Russia, and the only church in Russia with the title of minor basilica (status granted July 23, 2013). It is part of the Archdiocese of Moscow headed by Msgr. Paolo Pezzi, and is located on the Nevsky Prospekt. Like many churches, the building is in the shape of a Latin cross. The transept of the church is crowned by a large cupola. The temple is 44 m in length, 25 m in width, and 42 m in height. The sanctuary has room for about 2,000 people. The main facade of the church has a monumental arched portal, which rests on self-supporting columns. Above the facade is a high parapet, with the figures of four evangelists and angels on top. Above the main entrance is an inscription from the Gospel of Matthew (in Latin): 'My house shall be called the house of prayer' (Matthew 21:13) and the date the church was completed. In 1956-1957 Ruban took part in a trip to the Antarctica. The sketches made during the voyage at the Mirny, Pionerskaya, Vostok stations and the motor ship Kooperatsia were later included as illustrations in this book 'Without Dark Glasses'. He painted seventeen paintings based on sketches collected during his travels and trips to the classrooms of the Faculty of Geography of the main building of Moscow State University. At the Arctic and Antarctic Museum, many of the themes of the exhibition are solved through his paintings painted especially for the museum. He devoted more than forty years to the theme of the Pole and created an artistic chronicle of the development of the Russian Arctic and Antarctic countries. Ruban dedicated a number of his works to well-known scholars of the past - Semyon Cheluskin, Georgy Sedov, Vladimir Voronin and others. His personal exhibitions were held from 1935 in Moscow, Leningrad, Vologda, Arkhangelsk, Murmansk and other cities.
