Hunting the Unicorn | A Critical Biography of Ruth Pitter King, Don W. [Emma Thomas "Ruth" Pitter, CBE, FRSL (7 November 1897 - 29 February 1992) was a 20th-century British poet]. (Book #ID 103375) Published by The Kent State University Press, Kent, Ohio First Edition 2008. 2008. First edition hard back binding in publisher's original Brunswick green cloth covers, gilt stamped title, author lettering and designs to the spine and to the front cover, pale marble end papers. 8vo. 9½'' x 6¼''. Hunting the Unicorn is the first treatment to discuss the entire body of Pitter's verse. It will appeal to scholars and general readers as it places Pitter into the overall context of twentieth-century British poetry and portrays a rather modest, hard working woman who also witnessed the world through the lens of a gifted poet. She was the first woman to receive the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 1955, and was appointed a CBE in 1979 to honour her many contributions to English literature. In 1974, she was named a "Companion of Literature", the highest honour given by the Royal Society of Literature. Contains portrait frontispiece, (xvii)-blank, 342 pp with monochrome photographs to one gathering. Ink message to the half-title dated 2008. In Fine condition, no dust wrapper as issued.
