Sunbeam Motor Car Company Limited was a British motor car manufacturer with its works at Moorfields in Blakenhall, Wolverhampton. The Sunbeam name had been registered by John Marston (1836-1918) in 1888 for his bicycle manufacturing business. Sunbeam motor car manufacture began in 1901 and was sold to a newly incorporated Sunbeam Motor Car Company Limited in 1905 to separate it from Marston's pedal bicycle business, Sunbeam motorcycles were not made until 1912.

All Stags were four-seater convertible coupés, but for structural rigidity - and to meet new American rollover standards of the time - the Stag required a B-pillar "roll bar" hoop connected to the windscreen frame by a T-bar. A removable hardtop was a popular factory option for the early Stags, and was later supplied as a standard fitment. Member of the P.B.F.A.
