Hard back binding in publisher's original slate blue cloth covers, dark navy author and title lettering to the spine. 8vo 7½'' x 5¼'' 270 printed pages of text. Monochrome frontispiece. Author of 101 girls' stories, chiefly with school settings. A holiday spent in the Austrian Tyrol at Pertisau-am-Achensee gave her the inspiration for the first location in the Chalet School series. Her teaching career spanned 36 years with her final post as Headmistress of a school in Hereford. She also wrote plays and numerous unpublished poems and was a keen musician. Front free end paper missing, foxing to the page edges, without any ownership markings. Near Very Good condition book, in Very Good condition double-sided colour dust wrapper with two thin vertical crease lines to the spine and the front cover, the inner front flap is missing half of the text, spine colours not faded, without any tears or pieces of paper missing to the dust wrapper which is bright and sharp, the spine illustration shows a Matron holding up a Golliwogg, the front cover shows three girls outside a pink and yellow striped awning. Dust wrapper supplied in archive acetate film protection. List of twelve Chalet School Series titles to the rear of the dust wrapper starts with The School at the Chalet [1925], and finishes with Jo Returns to the Chalet School [1936].
