First edition hard back binding in publisher's original cream buckram cloth covers, gilt title and author lettering to the spine, gilt lettering on brown leather label and to the front cover, top edge gilt, deckle fore and lower page edges. 8vo. 10'' x 6½''. When he was young, Guthrie had been a friend of Robert Louis Stevenson, and published, in 1914, an appreciation of "Cummy," Stevenson's nurse. Hand written number 142 of an Edition limited to 500 copies, originally consisted of a series of articles which appeared in the Juridical Review, and, owing to the lamented death of Lord Guthrie in April 28th, 1920, is now issued without the benefit of his personal supervision. SIGNED 'M. A. Green,' Chairwoman, W. Green & Son, Ltd., Edinburgh, August 1920. Contains frontispiece, (iv), 72 printed pages of text with 16 monochrome illustrations and archive photographs throughout. Slight soiling to the pale covers and in Very Good sound condition.
