First edition thus hard back binding in contemporary half burgundy leather, spine divided into six panels lettered in the second, marble paper sides, peach paper end sheets. 18mo. 6½'' x 4¼''. Stowe's second published book, two years after Uncle Tom's Cabin. Presented as a series of letters to her friends and family during an extended tour of England, Scotland and mainland Europe. Originally published as two separate volumes in 1854, this is the combined 'author's edition' with illustrations. Contains frontispiece, (xvi), 540 pp with engraved monochrome illustrations throughout. Two old ink names to the verso of the frontispiece, a few smudge marks to the end papers, else in Very Good tight condition. Member of the P.B.F.A.
