First edition hard back binding which has been re-cased preserving the publisher's original front and rear covers, ships wheel in gilt with navy lettering to the upper panel, new spine with gilt lettering, original lemon end papers. 8vo 9'' x 6'' viii, 141, ii, viii [pp]. Two large fold-out plates to the rear showing rigging, other fold-out plates throughout, one of which has been repaired, 138 other monochrome illustrations grouped in varying amounts to each page, some of which are in single or two tone colour. These illustrations show the standard riggings, knots, bends, and hitches in use at the time, along with boat sailing, reefing, and furling sails, working anchor gear, manoeuvring, etc. This book has been well used and has old water marks throughout, it has been stabilised with new corners and has been re-stitched making it in sound condition. Very scarce first edition. Member of the P.B.F.A.
