The Boy and the Filberts, now retold in verse in Old Friends in a New Dress, a popular collection written specially for children by Richard Scrafton Sharpe, originally published in 1807. The moral drawn there is that learning comes only with application - 'True wisdom is not learned at once'. The fable was attributed to Aesop in later 19th century collections and also found its way to the USA. Sadly the title page is missing, foxing verso the frontispiece, rubbing to the covers. The Cornhill Magazine No. 33 (New Series) No. 471 March 1899

The Cornhill Magazine (1860-1975) was a monthly Victorian magazine and literary journal named after the street address of the founding publisher Smith, Elder & Co. at 65 Cornhill in London. In the 1860s, under editor William Makepeace Thackeray, the paper saw a large circulation, peaking at around 110,000. Due to emerging competitors, circulation fell to 20,000 by 1870. The Cornhill was purchased by John Murray in 1912, and continued to publish issues until 1975.
