Hard back binding in publisher's original Brunswick green cloth covers, gilt blocked title and author lettering and symmetrical black leaf decorations to the spine and to the front cover, unusual plain cloth inset stepped cut-away to the front cover, blind stamping to the rear board, all page edges gilt, green end papers. 8vo. 7½'' x 5¼''. Contains tissue guarded portrait frontispiece, 608 pp within a red straight lined boarder, monochrome engraved illustrations throughout. Very minor foxing to the edges of the last papers, neat pencil notes to the margins of the early pages of Paradise Lost, ink name to the half-title 'John G. Edgar'. In Very Good bright condition.
