Hard back binding in publisher's original vertical grained blue cloth covers, gilt lettering and design to spine, gilt vignette to upper panel of a boy rescuing another boy from a river, top edge gilt, fore edge slightly untrimmed. 8vo 7¾" x 5¾" 408 pp no advertisements, last page with 8/92 to the foot of the page. Eight [only seven listed] full page monochrome illustrations by A. W. Cooper, plus many other illustrations throughout the text, headers and tailpieces. Former prize plate to upper paste down with offsetting shadow to front end paper, two 30 mm areas of rubbing to fore and lower edges, corners just turned in, spine not faded and a nice copy of a scarce title.
